Persons interested must be 18 years of age or older, with a high school diploma or GED, and live in the Snyder area of Scurry County. Other requirements include owning a vehicle suitable for use in responding to fires, and providing proof of insurance for the vehicle.
The application process includes two visits to the department at regular meetings (2nd and 4th Mondays of each month at 7 pm) or at department scheduled training or events.
A membership application
can be submitted after the 1st meeting, and a meeting with the department's credentials committee will be scheduled following a criminal background check. Once the committee has met with the applicant for an interview, and the applicant has successfully met the admittance requirements, they are submitted for a majority vote of the entire department for probationary status.
The probationary status must be satisfied within one year, whereby the applicant has obtained the minimal training required
, and met the attendance requirements at fires (25% of paged calls) and drills (50% of scheduled training drills). Upon completion of probation, the firefighter is granted regular membership status with all rights and privileges of the department.
